Dental ContinuumThe Aesthetic Advantage team is built up of several incredible dentists from all over the world, and one being Dr. David Ward, DMD. Dr. Ward and his team, along with others, gave a very special patient the gift of hope with a smile makeover.

Roger came in a on an ordinary day in March 2011 to discuss his desire for an improved smile. After their introduction and greetings, Dr. Ward could sense Roger was a bit uneasy and asked about his health and medical information. Roger then proceeded to tell Dr. Ward that he has recently seen his doctor for a medical problem and they suspected cancer. Roger then quickly became upbeat and wanted to talk more about his hope to have a better smile.

After discussing Roger’s goals and desires for his smile, they discussed his budget for the treatments. Due to financial constraints Dr. Ward wouldn’t be able to complete the full plane of crowns and veneers, but they agreed on a staged treatment over a period of time. Nonetheless, Roger left happy, chatting it up with Dr. Roger’s team.

A few weeks later Roger returned to the office, just not as upbeat – more serious. In tears, he told Dr. Ward he had been diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer and esophageal cancer. At that point Dr. Ward asked if he would like to prolong treatment, and he opted not to. Larry Rosenthal, DDS is a New York-based dentist who has built an international reputation for his expertise in aesthetic dentistry. He completed his residency at Montefiore Hospital and graduated from New York University in 1972. Dr. Rosenthal is an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is Director of the Aesthetic Continuum at The Advanced Aesthetic Program at The Rosenthal Institute at New York University, The Palm Beach Community College and the FMC/Eastman Dental College in London. Expounding his philosophies, experience and expertise in aesthetic dentistry, Dr. Rosenthal extensively lectures, publishes, and teaches dental courses throughout the country.

dental continuumDr. Harry Long, senior clinician here at Aesthetic Advantage wrote the following article regarding patient-driven treatment. In it he explains that dentistry is a sector of the health care industry that prides itself on being able to be flexible in order to cater to a patient’s needs. Because of the flexibility, and ever-changing technological advancements, dental professionals have the ability to take a more personal approach when designing their patient’s treatment options. Taking the time to get to know the patient, their concerns and questions all help to give them the best possible options.

Dr. Long explains his points through two case studies. The first, a 26-year-old woman with a collapsed arch form and classically crowded dentition. The second, a 30-year-old man with collapsed maxillary and mandibular arch forms, along with crowded dentition and irritation of the interdental papilla. Both treatment options were patient-driven in order to cater to the patient’s needs.

“Ultimately, each practitioner must choose his or her own best way to get to where the profession seeks to go collectively— which is the best possible outcome for the patient.”

Clinical Instructor Biography: Dr. George Kirtley

Dr. George E. Kirtley is presently the only dentist in the State of Indiana to be accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr Kirtley is also accredited by the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and at the time of writing is the only dentist in the world to be an accredited member of both the British and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Kirtley has the distinct honor of being a March 1999 inductee into the GenR8Next Dental Hall of Fame for his work in smile dentistry. In 2001 he was recognized by nationally syndicated More Magazine as one of America’s top 10 cosmetic dentists.

Dr. Kirtley is the team dentist for the NBA Indiana Pacers. He is a product research consultant for dental product companies and a teacher and instructor for the Aesthetic Advantage Programs at New York University, NYC; West Palm Beach Atlantic Coast Research Center, West Palm Beach, Florida; and University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. As part of his professional instruction, he is also a national lecturer and author of cosmetic dentistry articles published in the leading dental journals: Dentistry Today and Contemporary Esthetics.

Aesthetic Advantage is extremely honored to have Dr. Marc Schlenoff as one of the many clinical instructors and lecturers leading our Aesthetic Continuing Education Courses.

Dr. Marc Schlenoff graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1981, and has run a very successful general dentistry practice in McAfee, New Jersey since 1985. His practice involves all aspects in general dentistry, with an emphasis on aesthetic and comprehensive restorative care.

For the past 11 years, Dr. Schlenoff has been a clinical instructor and lecture here at the Rosenthal Institute Aesthetic Advantage at NYU. Dr. Schlenoff has also taught hands-on courses at several American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry meeting over the years, helping practicing dentists master the latest aesthetic techniques. He’s also an assistant clinical professor at the New York University, School of Dentistry. In addition, he’s on staff at Morristown Memorial Hospital, where he trains dental residents in clinical dentistry, as well as in practice management.

Dr. Schlenoff has published articles for three leading professional journals, including Inside Dentistry, Dental Economics and Practical Aesthetics. He also completed a Certificate Program in Business Essentials from Rutgers University.  Dr. Schlenoff has been named one of America’s Top Dentist’s for Cosmetic and Restorative Care by The Consumer’s Research Council of America for 8 consecutive years. Along with all of Dr. Schlenoff’s clinical practice, he has also volunteered his time and care to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Give Back a Smile Program and Donated Dental Services.

Dean VafiadisAesthetic Advantage is extremely proud to have Dr. Dean Vafiadis, a highly successful aesthetic dentist, as one of the many senior clinical instructors leading our Aesthetic Continuing Education Courses.

Dr. Dean Vafiadis received his dental degree and prosthodontic specialty training at the New York University College of Dentistry, and is currently the Director of the Full-Mouth Rehabilitation CE course at New York University (NYU). Dr. Vafiadis is a lecturer and senior clinical instructor at the Aesthetic Advantage Course in the Rosenthal Institute of Aesthetic and Implant Dentistry. He also lectures nationally and abroad for New York University’s Continuing Education department. He’s instructed over 7,000 dentists with over 500 programs over the past 14 years.

One of his many accomplishments includes being the founder of the New York Smile Institute in New York. New York Smile Institute is an educational center, full-service laboratory and learning facility, as well as a private location for a multi-specialty practice for aesthetic and implant dentistry. He’s currently the Program Director of the Full-Mouth Rehabilitation CE program at NYUCD, and also lectures the Continuing Education program there.

Clinical Instructor Biography: Dr. Michael Kraus

krausDr. Michael Kraus graduated from Columbia School of Dental and Oral Surgery and has be in private practice for the past 26 years. He’s a clinical instructor at Columbia University and here at the Rosenthal Institute in New York City. He’s also an instructor at the Atlantic Coastal Research Clinic in Palm Beach, FL. Dr. Kraus is very proud of his teaching experience.

With cosmetic and restorative dentistry being Dr. Kraus’s true passion, he decided to open up his own private practice in 2001, which is located on Madison Avenue in mid-town Manhattan. His office is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for comprehensive dentistry. He is known for his comprehensive care and attention to detail. Dr. Kraus addresses the needs of the entire oral cavity and the connection to the patients overall health.

Dr. Kraus is a spokesperson for major brands such as Colgate, Crest, Sonicare and Trident.

Clinical Instructor Biography: Dr. Todd Meeks

Todd MeeksDr. Todd Meeks graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1988, and now maintains a successful private practice in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He has received advanced training in all aspects of general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. He’s completed the Pacific Aesthetic Continuum in San Francisco, and is a Master Graduate and Instructor here at the Rosenthal Institute in New York City. Dr. Meeks is also an accomplished author with publications in Dental Products Reports as well as Dentistry Today magazines, and for the last three years he has been asked to lecture at the national convention for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD).

Dr. Meeks is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the Isaac Knapp Dental Society, the Indiana Dental Association and the American Dental Association. In his spare time, Dr. Meeks enjoys golfing and spending time with his three wonderful children.

dental coniuing courses new yorkDr. Kenneth Hamlett is a senior clinical instructor and lecturer for the Rosenthal Institute in the Aesthetic Advantages courses at New York University, Eastman Dental College and London, England. He graduated from Baylor University College of Dentistry, and maintains a private spa dental practice in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Hamlett lectures both nationally and internationally on cosmetic dentistry techniques. He’s a Fellow member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry and Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Hamlett also does research for The Dental Advisor.

Dr. Hamlett has a deep love for his home town Dallas, Texas. Not only has he provided with extraordinary, personal care for fellow Dallas natives, but also his incredible skills and reputation has brought patients such as media celebrities and fashion models, from all over the world to his Dallas office for treatment. Dr. Hamlett’s strives to give every single one of his patients the treatment they deserve.

Gerard LemongelloDr. Gerard J. Lemongello is a Senior Clinical Instructor here at the Rosenthal Institutes Aesthetic Advantage Continuum at New York University. He graduated from the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry and has been in private practice since 1987. His focus is on cosmetic and comprehensive dentistry. He’s a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry and is an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He’s also the Co-chairman of the Comprehensive Esthetic and Restorative Clinic at the Atlantic Coast Dental Research Clinic in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Dr. Gerard Lemongello has stayed dedicated to continuing his education by completing advanced training in esthetics, restorative dentistry and orthodontics at some of the most prestigious institutes thought the country. He has published many articles in leading dental journals, and also lectures nationally on complex treatment planning, aesthetics and implant dentistry, as well as other modern dental topics.
